I think I have managed to fix most of the important breakage in my packages, after Slackware-current updated its icu4c package a couple of days ago.
Recompiled packages are now available for -current:
- Regular packages: LibreOffice 5.0.3
- KDE 5_15.11 packages: qt5 (which was bumped to 5.5.1 at the same time), step, akonadi4, akonadi, akonadi-search, akonadi-calendar and kdepimlibs. Here at home, Plasma 5 works again on latest slackware-current.
- Multilib: fixed convertpkg-compat32 script so that it will properly handle the new eudev; and also updated the “compat32” package directory with a new eudev-compat32 package.
If there are other packages in my -current repository that require recompilation, please let me know!
Eric
Thanks Eric – the upgrade went fine for me, and I am sure there are some sbo packages that are broken, but I’ll get to them as needed. Didn’t realize Libreoffice was broken until I saw your post. Then I saw it also on LQ.
Thanks again!
That was fast!! Thanks Eric!!
thanks, i don’t know, but ksmserver need the link /lib64/libudev.so.0 -> libudev.so.1.6.3
without my plasma crashes so maybe plasma-workspace
Ok, Eric, kde and libreoffice work here 😉
kdeteam have updated plasma-workspace-wallpapers (5.4.3.1)
http://download.kde.org/stable/plasma/5.4.3/plasma-workspace-wallpapers-5.4.3.1.tar.xz
I cannot boot either. Plasma crashes upon boot. I have a backtrace and I could post it if it would be useful. Perhaps it’s the same problem as Jeffrey.
LibreOffice works OK.
It seem breeze-icons need this patch:
https://projects.archlinux.org/svntogit/packages.git/tree/trunk?h=packages/breeze-icons
Ok, the workaround mentioned by Jeffrey does nothing here. Plasma still crashes hard upon boot. Thanks anyway Eric. Remember, i have a backtrace should you need it.
try reinstall aaa_elflibs eudev and libgudev package
@Gérard – Did that, no such luck. Thanks anyway
Eric the PACKAGES.TXT
http://alien.slackbook.org/ktown/PACKAGES.TXT
is bad
the alien extensions are not applied in applications categories
exemple amor-15.08.3-x86_64-1.txz, at the place of amor-15.08.3-x86_64-1alien
BIG THANKS ERIC!! Way to go man. I did OK with bumping up to qt-5.5.1, so I’m GLAD to see you did so, and bumped the rest of your fine work also. Your Slack is never slack.
Thanks Eric!
the problem is in the framework categorie something, has one bad dependence
Gérard, the incorrect information in PACKAGES.TXT stems from my previous omission in applying the ‘alien’ tag to the packages in applications/ . I am regenerating the repository metadata at the moment which should fix this.
kde5 worked with me, but I forgot to reinstall packages Eric framework, it worked with my own packets, but not with those of Eric
Well, I cannot make Plasma 5 start. Plasma 5 crashes hard on boot. Perhaps there’s something else that needs recompilation.
Any errors?
Thanks for all you job Eric, here all ok except for i cann’t set a keyboard distribution and system-tray notifications doesn’t active always-show but looks so great, thanks again 😀
keyboard layoud problem solved, i think need a shourcut XD
Eric,
Plasma is STILL puking! Does same regardless of my or your qt-5.5.1 build. here is some of the vomit:
Application: Plasma (plasmashell), signal: Segmentation fault

Gerard, I have the same issue on my laptop. I can not explain it.
It’s almost 2 AM here, so it’s bed time. Have to investigate tomorrow evening, a busy work day ahead.
Calibre no longer works or builds.
Boris, more detail please? Errors?
Thank you for everything Eric. Have a great rest.
Get some sleep Old Slacker hacker. I’m trying it sans multilib stuff for now. Not hopeful, but its worth a shot…

Hi
plasma crashes for me too, segfault 11. Tried reinstalling everything still did not work. Any idea whats causing this?
Hi all,
I’ve had the plasma crash as well, and in fact plasmashell is crashing in libudev.so.0. The reason seems to be the fact that the old udev libraries are still in /lib64 through the aaa_elflibs package (even in the latest version – 6). Pat has still packaged libudev.so.0.13.1 instead of libudev.so.1.6.3 (shipped with eudev). A quick hack would be to replace the link libudev.so.0 -> libudev.so.0.13.1 with libudev.so.0 -> libudev.so.1 in /lib64. Note though, that somehow the original link is “mysteriously” restored. Another thing that I did was to remove the link libudev.so.0 and recompile the solid and plasma-workspace packages which then linked with libudev.so.1. However, any other program that links to libudev.so.0 and doesn’t find it will crash plasma (e.g. krusader).
Lots of recompiling I see in the future … 😉
BIG Thanx 2 U manciuleas ! I edited the ONE stagnant link in /lib64 to libudev.so.0.13.1 after deleting it, then Voila!, konsole started without a burp. Am going to log out of LXDE and try Plasma now…. THIS MIGHT BE A VALID FIX FOLKS! 🙂
hey Gerald Morris
Thanks for the tip, it worked and I am using KDE now. I relinked libudev.so.0 to libudev.so.1.13.1 or whatever it is. Its working none the less!
And thanks Eric for everything!
THAT DID IT! I’m using KDE 5 myself, with NO further bullshit! let’s be sure to tell Eric, and he can tell Pat what to do. No need to thank ME! The combination of using a newer qt5 and fixing this bad symlink, which I didn’t find, but rather manciuleas did, does the trick. SO, let us ALL breathe a sigh of RELEIF and get back to our NORMAL SLACKING.
One LAST clarification. THE GOOD LIBRARY IS /lib64/libudev.so.1.6.3 Be SURE to FIX ALL your old symlinks so they point TO THAT. You can safely delete the old /lib64/libudev.so.0.13.1. In fact, you MUST. Happy Hacking and Slacking all, and GOOD NIGHT! 😀
well thank you manciuleas! Glad that this is over with and all fixed up! and my bad its relinked to libudev.so.1.6.3 .
Good night and happy Slacking!
thanks manciuleas, it works for me.
Thank you manciuleas, linking libudev.so.0 to libudev.so.1.6.3 did the trick also here.
Thanks Eric, Plasma work, but system tray settings doesn’t active always-show.
@Willy Arana
You need to edit ~/.config/plasma-org.kde.plasma.desktop-appletsrc file.
I tried the symlink but somehow it didn’t work.
@Gerald Morris
Your advice did it.
Eric, deleting /lib64/libudev.so.0.13.1 and symlinking libudev.so.0 to /lib64/libudev.so.1.6.3 restores normal behavior.
Thanks to Gerald, manciuleas and all the others for the advice.
That is a nice kludge – but changing that symlink is certainly not a decent solution. I will investigate further but in the meantime it is good to know that people can work again.
Hi Alienbob,
As I said in my first post IMO the main reason for this problem is that the official aaa_elflibs packages still contains the old udev libraries (libudev.so.0.13.1) instead of the ones from eudev (libudev.so.1.6.3). Eventually the new udev libraries are installed with the eudev package but the “damage” is already done.
Regards
There is problem with qbittorrent:
qbittorrent: error while loading shared libraries: libboost_system.so.1.58.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
Andersen , indeed. It looks like libtorrent-rasterbar is the actual culprit but I will upgrade qbittorrent at the same time.
sorry, forgot to mention that i use aaa_elflibs-13.37-x86_64-7, because of # aaa_elflibs can’t be updated 🙂

Many thanks Eric. I use LibreOffice every day. I really appreciate the effort put in to do all that you do.
Hi Eric. Right now I just realized that telepathy doesn’t work, either. The icon does not appear anymore.
Eduardo, strange: telepathy works here.
Telepathy doesn’t work here too, and plasmashell crashes very often.
Eric it seem i found the problem it’s probably ‘solid’ package.
kde work with my ‘solid’ package, crash with your ‘solid’ package
Eric i confirm it’s ‘solid’
i have réinstalled your farmeworks package, with my
‘solid’ package and all work correctly
your solid package is compiled with udev
my package is compiled with eudev 😉
Also maybe it’s better recompil ‘kio’
it depend on ‘solid’

Hi Eric, when I tried to reinstall the telepathy plasmoid I got the following error message:
Error loading QML file: file:///usr/share/plasma/plasmoids/org.kde.ktp-contactlist/contents/ui/main.qml:22:1: plugin cannot be loaded for module “org.kde.telepathy”: Cannot load library /usr/lib64/qt5/qml/org/kde/telepathy/libktpqmlplugin.so: (libicui18n.so.54: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory)
Hi eric, after today’s update I am happy to report that I am able to run Plasma even without that kludge with libudev.
However, Telepathy is still broken due to icu4c.
Thanks for everything!
Eric, looks like your latest kde packages allow plasma to work as I don’t need the symlink anymore, but it looks like solid still links against the old udev libraries, and it’s breaking Amarok. Does Amarok work on your system? Thanks for your hard work!
Matthew
schu, works here. Are you running 32bit or 64bit? What errors do you see?
Thanks for getting back to me!
I’m using 64-bit. Updated the ktown/5 packages today, and the latest slackware64-current packages. This is what happens when I try to start it. If I symlink libudev.so.0 to libudev.so.1 like on Monday, then it works.

Amarok crashes for me too and for the same reason: libudev.so.0. A recompilation without libudev.so.0 on the system would fix it.
Why did Pat leave libudev.so.0 in aaa_elflibs? Which package depends on it?
Yes it’s probably because kdelibs (kde4)
is compiled on udev
tested here with my package (compiled) on eudev
amarok work
Eric, kdelibs need recompil, because
libsolid.so4 (part of kdelibs) is compiled on udev????
Hi , good job in the livecd.
I see , in dolphin , the loop devices are “visible” ,thats not nice.
/etc/udev/rules.d
file wirh this , hidden de loops
10-local.rules
# prevent loop devices (xzm modules) from appearing in the dolphin/pcmanfm panel
# by http://www.seguridadwireless.net
# Hidden loops for udisks
KERNEL==”loop*”, ENV{UDISKS_PRESENTATION_HIDE}=”1″
# Hidden loops for udisks2
KERNEL==”loop*”, ENV{UDISKS_IGNORE}=”1″
Thanks USUARIONUEVO that is really useful. I had not looked into hiding the loop devices yet but it was high on my TODO.
Eric, maybe isn’t necessary for you to maintain the kdelibs, package i have tested with ‘kdelibs’ slack-current package and it seem all work correctly.

Francesco, looks like a crash in the AMD Catalyst (fglrc) driver. Not much I can do about that.
Gérard so what is it: does it or does it not work with the kdelibs in -current? You recmpiled and posted so many things that at the moment it is not clear to me if your issues are caused by your recompilations or my packages…
No, problem here with my recompil package
just i said the kdelibs slack-current package seem working properly, with your ‘armarok’ crash 😉
For those who would like to log/add a tad bit more info than Xorg.0.log provides this could be “helpful” perhaps.
$ startx >”$HOME/startx.$(date +%Y-%m-%d_%H:%M).log” 2>&1
it will of course continue logging until you logout or utilize another option to stop it .
Gérard, I understand better now.
A recompiled kdelibs package will appear in my ‘ktown’ repository soon. I have already finished the 64-bit packages (I recompiled all of telepathy as well). I still need to do the 32-bit packages when I get home from work.
Ok, Eric, sorry, maybe my english, isn’t perfect 😉
yes, but weirdly, before the update there was no error and all worked fine. If there’s a compatibility problem, maybe it could interest you
The Xfce edition could use a few touch ups.
1. Read-write permissions on USB drives is set to Read-only. Normally with udisks this is RW.
2. It would be handy to have a disk burner like Xfburn.
3. Just a handy dandy idea, but maybe add ClamAV and RKhunter.
Only two things, so honestly Eric, this was a worthwhile. Very stable on my system. This has tons of potential, and honestly it’s a nice rescue disk too.
Simple, elegant, and flexible.
Great job Eric.
Hi ReaperX7 – I assume you posted to the wrong article as your comment is about the Live ISO.
1. No idea why USB drives are not mounted writable. I have not tested this myself so I can not yet comment on it.
2 and 3. the XFCE edition is a slimmed-down Slackware without any 3rd party stuff added. Nevertheless, if you copy the ISO to a USB stick, you can add squashfs modules to the /liveslack/addons/ directory and those will be seamlessly integrated into the Live OS. For instance, if you have Slackware packages for xfburn, clamav and rkhunter, you run the “makemod” script in the source directory to create .sxz files out of the packages and those .sxz files should then be copied to the USB stick. Next boot, those programs will be available in the Live OS.
re: Qbittorrent – Eh? How do I get it to work when \”libtorrent-rasterbar is the actual culprit\” and \”I will upgrade qbittorrent at the same time\” – all 14.x versions currently tested with the same error… but this is on PartedMagic, which only has \”compatibility\” with Slackware 14.x packages.
Thanks for the effort, in any case, have found very useful your VLC and some other packages.
You are commenting on a statement I made more than two years ago. Hardly relevant. Plus, I do not support Parted Magic. Perhaps you should post this question on a Parted Magic forum?
