A few days ago the Document Foundation released their newest version of the LibreOffice open source production suite. Version 3.4.3 is now also available in Slackware package format, the packages I built for you are available here (it’s better if you try the mirrors, they should be a lot faster):
- http://taper.alienbase.nl/mirrors/people/alien/slackbuilds/libreoffice/
- http://slackware.org.uk/people/alien/slackbuilds/libreoffice/
- http://repo.ukdw.ac.id/alien-libreoffice/
Note that all mirrors also have rsync available (not the slackware.com server though).
Mostly this is a maintenance release, however I made one change to the packages: I have split off the mozilla-compatible browser plugin into a separate package “libreoffice-mozplugin”. A few users of my packages reported that this plugin caused LibreOffice to start whenever they would close their Firefox browser. If you use upgradepkg to upgrade your installed libreoffice to my version 3.4.3 package, the old plugin will be automatically be removed (therefore it is recommended that you close your firefox when you upgrade to this new version of LibreOffice).
You have to use installpkg to also install the new libreoffice-mozplugin package.
Have fun! Eric
???????!
Thx alot
Just upgraded my laptop tp 3.4.2 yesterday 😀
Thanks Eric. Those language packs have to be a ton of work to get done. Hellauva job!
Thanks for all the packages.
When I ran lowriter it failed to start and I got an error dialog complaining about a berkeley db and referring to a file under .libreoffice. I removed the .libreoffice dir (left over from an otherwise removed install of 3.2.2 from SBo) and lowriter launched fine thereafter.
@mcnalu
Yes, I found out earlier that the extension caches created by the official binaries (which the SBo script converts into a Slackware package) and my natively compiled package are not compatible. Removing some of the directories below ~/.libreoffice which contain these berkeley database files cures this (see also http://alien.slackbook.org/blog/libreoffice-3-3-3-versus-3-4-0/)
Eric
Thank you Eric 🙂
Thanks Eric, solved the “autostart after closing firefox” problem so far 🙂
Did you find out what the problem was?
Hi,
I’m new user on linux and Slackware, since two years ago, and I apreciate the guides and packages that i found in your wiki and blog page, are helpfull for me, but now i try to install the ATI propietary drivers on Slackware 13.37 after make the package install and change the Xorg.conf with the aticonfig –initial command, the I run the flgrxinfo command for test the installation and give me a Error: unable to open display (NULL), do you can help me to find where is the error if you have some experience with ATI drivers on Slackware.
Thanks for all !
Sorry for my english. I’m from Venezuela.
@Oscar:
try glxgears
Thanks Eric! I downloaded the sources while I slept last night, and started the Slackbuild when I left for work. I was happy to see a successful package build when I got home.
Hi!
I do not see a big reason to pack all the extensions provided by LibOO into a package. I may be totally wrong, but i did not met the occasion when those could be needed. So, I pack none of them for my needs.
Someone have problem with horizontal scroll-bar like me?
On all the programs the horizontal scroll-bar (when present) is half hidden and doesn’t work.
Ok i found in the post on 3.4.2 version the answers.
The middle button trick looks like the right work around.
Hi Eric,
Your LibreOffice packages for 3.4.3 are currently in production use in a private school here in France, on twenty desktops for students and teachers alike. So far, two annoying bugs. 1) LibreOffice is a PITA for landscape printing. 2) Horizontal scrolling doesn’t work when documents are zoomed in.
Hi Niki
The horizontal scrolling bugs should get a lot more attention, these bugs have been around for several releases now.
As for printing… I can not really comment on it since I seldom print anything on paper. What kind of problems do you experience?
Eric
When printing a landscape document – like schedules for the school – it gets printed vertically, with the right third of the document missing. Quite annoying. A “solution” is to open the printing configuration dialog and switch the “printing method” from PDF to Postscript. There’s no way to define this as default, so it’s quite a PITA for everyday work, but at least we have a workaround.
These two bugs are so annoying that I reconsider moving back to OpenOffice.org. Don’t know.
hi, are you aware of this kind of “workaround” for the horizontal scrolling bug?
