By the way, today I opened a new position in one of my IT teams in Veldhoven, The Netherlands (ASML’s HQ):
I am looking for a Senior MATLAB Support Engineer to help support the roughly 8000 MATLAB and SimuLink users in our Research, Development & Engineering departments.
I am on the look-out for good people again. This time in the US.
Remember – I left IBM (involuntarily) and started working at ASML at the end of 2016, first in a technical IT role but nowadays as an IT Group Leader focusing on providing services and solutions in Virtual Product Development (VPD) and Engineering Simulation (simulation driven design) toward our internal customers (mechanical, fluid dynamics, optical and multi-physics engineering, and research).
Need I remind you? ASML is all over the news these days, labeled the “linchpin of the electronics industry“. It is an exciting company to work for, and the amount of work we do is rapidly expanding as a result of two years of COVID19 pandemic and the resulting increase in demand for consumer electronics and computer chips. As a company we are at the forefront of lithography innovation with our EUV machines (Extreme Ultra Violet laser powered).

The complexity of our machines keeps increasing, and with it the demand for smart IT solutions that enable our engineers and researchers to perform more and bigger model simulations in less time. But also we need to address the needs of our customer support and operations divisions to use Machine Learning in order to become more predictive about our machines’ performance in the field.
I manage a couple of Agile IT teams that form an Agile Release Train and work together with our Engineering colleagues to improve their Simulation Workspace (VDI client, HPC cluster, masses of storage all placed in the Data Center and connected with high-bandwidth network).
I posted about open positions in my Veldhoven (Netherlands) teams last year (btw there are still open positions in my Dutch teams), and I am now bringing my latest vacancies to your attention. These are openings in the US, not in the Netherlands, but you would be closely collaborating with your Agile team members both in the US and in the Netherlands!
I’ll come to the point: for our IT Agile Release Train I have two job openings in the US: one for our SIMS team, one for our HPDA team.

To keep up the pace with the ever increasing demands from our ASML Research and Engineering colleagues, I have been growing the IT teams that report to me. I hired quite a lot of people during the past two years that I have been in the manager seat, and I am now hiring again!
I am also posting here on my blog because it is becoming more challenging every year to find the right people within a reasonable time.
Specifically: I have a job opening for an “IT Infra Automation & Integration Expert“. This job is located at ASML HQ, Veldhoven, The Netherlands. Note that you’d have to move to the Netherlands if you are interested and want to apply.
We are looking for a new colleague in the “SIMS” team of our IT Agile Release Train “Engineering Simulation Services”. This IT ART delivers a Simulation Workplace to our internal customers who are in Mechanical and Optical Engineering as well as Research departments.

When I left IBM in November 2016 to join ASML a month later, I thought I had found a job (managing a Linux server infrastructure) that would keep me busy for years. At ASML things are not always what they seem, and instead my actual scope turned out to be a lot bigger, so I became the Technical Application Manager within the IT team responsible for the Electrical Engineering Infrastructure (EEI) which is used by the Electrical Development group within Development & Engineering. A challenging and fun job, working with a terrific team, and I can confidently say (our IT director confirmed) that we are the most socially coherent group within IT.
Not even two years later, and a restructuring of the IT department causes me to say farewell to this job…
No, I was not fired. In fact, I did so well that I got a new job. ASML D&E is growing insanely fast, last month the company hired more than 500 new employees in Veldhoven (our HQ) alone. The IT department has a challenge there, as we need to keep up with the pace, in terms of capacity and also the force of innovation. The real challenge? You can hire a lot of highly intelligent motivated people but as a company you need to stay coherent and keep focus on the business priorities. I.e. you need team and group leads who are able to inspire and guide their teams. Ideally these TL’s and GL’s should not be hired, they should mature within the organization so that they actually know what is needed to get the job done. ASML is not a run-of-the-mill company in that regard.
And that is why I was tagged as Solution Team Manager of a team which will focus on virtual product development (providing services to our data analysts and simulation engineers). I will also manage our group’s “general services” meaning architects, project managers, infra coordinators and the technical application manager. And there he is! I left my old job and started a new job, and now I have a vacancy in my team.

The work location will be Veldhoven, The Netherlands. It’s a permanent pool position (i.e. no flex job, you’ll be on the ASML payroll with all the perks that that includes).
