Eric: All final trips, no matter how expected or unplanned, will last forever. I hope the journey was well planned, and everything before was wonderful. May you be in peace.

It’s a little hard to understand the meaning of this because of the the distance of the subjects in the photo. But am I seeing you, granting your hospital bedridden mother a last look and whiff of the ocean ? If so … well done. I couldn’t grant my father nor my mother’s last wishes and I regret it sincerely.

Cheers and more to you in these trying times,

    Kevin

As a Christian, I would like to share with you one poem(if you dont mind), that always reminds me of my caring Father.

    Footprints

One night a man had a dream.
He dreamed he was walking along the beach with the Lord.
Across the sky flashed scenes from his life. For each scene
    he noticed two sets of footprints in the sand;
one belonged to him, and the other to the Lord.
When the last scene of his life flashed before him,
he looked back at the footprints in the sand.
he noticed that many times along the path of his life
there was only one set of footprints.
He also noticed that it happened
at the very lowest and saddest times in his life.
This really bothered him and he questioned the Lord about it.
“Lord, you said that once I decided to follow you,
you’d walk with me all the way. But I have noticed that
at the worst times in my life, there is only one set of footprints.
How could you leave me when I needed you the most?”
The Lord replied ” My precious, precious child,
I love you and would never leave you.
During your times of suffering and when you see
only one set of footprints, it was then that I carried you.”

I am not religious but that poem is very moving because it speaks of unconditional love and care.

The moments we spend together are what makes life worth living. The here and now is everything and using it to enrich lives is a noble use of that time. You have given so much, and in other areas of your life we wouldn’t see if you hadn’t shared this with us.

Thank you and I hope your mother’s lessons, likeness, and memories of her live in in your family for generations.

Eric: You’re a good son. I’m sure your mother loved this and I know you’ll have this memory forever. Making an ill person smile, if only for a minute, gives them a peace they may not have had in a while. You have my condolences and admiration. May she rest in peace.

  9. LoneStar

Good way to start that adventure.

    Take care, Eric.

My parents are still around. I live far away from them tho. When their time comes I wish I could give’em just what you gave to your mom, Eric.

I don’t need to know your mom to tell you this: she went away well aware her offspring is the living testimony of her legacy. This is powerful and meaningful to anyone knowing where the important things in life are.

I wish peace for you and your family.

  14. Jim Hanley

Now THAT is a proper sendoff! I’m so pleased, Eric, that it all worked out so you could gift your Mom with such a Life experience. I’m not religious at all, probably to some a heathen, but Life, Time here on Earth, alive and aware is the ultimate value, physical, spiritual, however you see it as we write our stories on-the-fly and you helped your Mom write a proper book, a story with a Happy Ending, a gift from her loving Son.

My Mom died last weak at the age of 96 after 2 strokes but she was present to the last, so I am particularly moved by what you accomplished for your Mom, Eric. It may be odd to use a comic book quote, but in my book, “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown”. (Hope that translates well) Best wishes in all you do. Salut!

Good on You. My wife has MS and loves the sound of the waves and the smell of the ocean too.I think we’ll be doing our last camping trip this summer. Her scooter doesn’t work well on the sand. She also has trouble climbing the steps into our trailer (caravan) . We are in our late sixties.

    Hi Eric,

I just caught up with this. My condolences to you and yours. I lost my mom 3 years ago this Friday. She was sick but it was still unexpected. It is a crazy part of life and definitely changes you. She lives on in my head and heart. I wish you peace and hope you celebrate her life in your own way. Be well my friend.
