My thoughts on Slackware, life and everything

Libreoffice 3.6.2 released

Just wen I had built Libreoffice 3.6.1 packages (with a bit of delay because releasing Slackware 14 was more important), the developers released the next stabilization update, 3.6.2. Oh well, another two days of compiling and I have another 900 MB of packages for you…

Perhaps good to mention here, is that LibreOffice extensions are available from http://extensions.libreoffice.org/extension-center .

If anyone has created a professional-looking set of Slackware themed presentations or document templates, could you offer those for download? I am not an expert in these things, but it would be a nice-to-have. Not for me alone – there are probably many more people with this wish.

The LibreOffice 3.6.2 packages are built on Slackware 13.37 but can be installed on Slackware 14 as well. If you find any issues on Slackware 14 please tell me. Downloads are available already (mirrors will catch up in the next 24 hours):

Have a good weekend! Eric

    Eric,
There is definitely a long and overdue “Thank You”, that you deserve. I’ve been relying on your Slackware contributions for some time now and haven’t stopped to give one thanks for all of their hard work that is taken for granted every day.

I’m not sure how you keep up with the barrage of requests from numerous anonymous people, but I find it very commendable how you always deal with people in a professional manner.

Also, I hope the monetary situation eventually resolves itself, I can relate in the fact that I am the sole bread winner in a family of 5 (including myself)…and its been difficult to “stay afloat”.

    Anyway, thanks again.

Just to double check as a newbie, do i need to removepkg the previous version before installpkg this 3.6.2 version? Thanks ; )

    Hi Gabriel

Just use “upgradepkg” instead of “removepkg and installpkg”, that wil do the trick. No need to remove the packages first.

    Dear Eric,
the password function in 3.6.3 still does not work. If I compile 3.6.2 from SBO there is no problem.
    Best regards

    Hi Peter

You are not “compiling” LibreOffice if you use the SlackBuild from http://slackbuilds.org/ … you are re-packaging the official binaries.
And those binaries change something in a library, and I do not know what. If you really rely on password protected documents, you should use the official pre-compiled binaries which are packaged by the SBo script, not mine which are being compiled from source on Slackware.

    Dear Eric,

I’m sorry for being imprecise relating to compiling. I only asked again, because You told me some month ago the problem in Your packages could be solved eventually with 3.6. So in future I will use SBO-based packages.
    Best regards
    Peter

    Hi Eric,
Can you check if you can play mp3 songs using Amarok? it adds them in the playlist but none of them is played (using other players such songs work good) Thanks 🙂

    Hi Nicola

This is not a question which is related to the release of LibreOffice. I would prefer if general questions get asked in the feedback page instead: http://alien.slackbook.org/blog/your-feedback/

Amarok is not my favourite app, because sound is almost always broken. If you install gst-plugins-ffmpeg or gst-plugins-ugly however, your mp3’s will be heard again.

sorry Eric, I wrongly selected the Libreoffice post instead of Kde.

    Hi Peter

I have found the solution for the “save with password” issue which was generating the “general input/output error” message.
I am currently compiling 32-bit packages, and when that is complete (somewhere friday morning) I will upload the fixed libreoffice-3.6.2 packages to my repository.

    Eric
