To blog or not to blog

There was a reason for this blog to come into existence.

In fact there were several. I have been accumulating material in my slackbuilds repository, and writing technical articles for my wiki, but I had no place where I could comment on my work freely. There was that aborted attempt I made at forcing the DokuWiki software to behave like a blog, but that was too cumbersome to continue with it.

The problem I faced is that I want a blog page that I host myself, but for good reasons I do not want to depend on an SQL database for storage. Fortunately, I found out that there is this neat extension to WordPress called PDO for WordPress which allows me to use a sqlite (text-based) database backend for my blog.

I must still find a visual theme that fits with my ideas for the content I want to write, but I already added a nice banner cut from a photo I took on a cold (!) wintery morning during my visit at Greenpeace Hamburg.

Now that this blog exists, I intend to make good use of it. I also hope you good people will read what I have to say. If you have a suggestion for a subject you’d like my opinion on, drop me an email and I see what I can do.

Eric
